The Principles of Chiropractic

Innate Intelligence – A body that functions in a balanced way (in homeostasis) has the innate capacity for self-recovery. Health comes from within.

The Nervous System to the center – The nervous system (brain, spinal cord, and nerves) controls, coordinates and regulates all the tissues, cells and functions of the organism.

Spinal column – While the brain is protected by the skull, the spinal cord and nerve roots are protected by the spine, composed of 24 moving vertebrae that act as its protective helmet.

Vertebral subluxation – A vertebral subluxation (less mobility and/or displacement that irritates a nerve) interferes negatively with the functioning of the nervous system, harming the health in general.

Release Interferences – The Chiropractor is dedicated to locating and correct subluxations, returning mobility to the spine and freeing the nervous system of these interferences thanks to the very specific and painless vertebral adjustments.

Spinal Column and nervous system

The spinal column is a vitally important structure that is also known as the “tree of life” since it protects the key part of our organism: the nervous system. This system is composed of the brain and the spinal cord, which houses the roots of the thousands of nerves that emerge between the vertebrae and branch out, transmitting the messages from the brain to the rest of the body to keep it functioning optimally.

The central nervous system controls each and every one of the functions of our cells, organs, muscles, glands … just like the other 12 systems that make up our body: immunological, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular.

Chiropractic doctors are specialists in removing nerve interferences when there are misalignments at the vertebral level.

Vertebral Subluxation

When the nervous system is not able to assimilate the stress of the environment, it compensates by creating vertebral subluxations.

The term subluxation is used by chiropractic doctors to refer to what is commonly called “impingement”. It occurs when a vertebra loses its mobility or normal position and irritates or compresses the nerve that passes through it. The annoyance produces a nervous interference in the transmission of the nervous messages that go from the brain towards the whole body.

In 90% of the cases, the subluxation does not produce physical pain since only 10% of the nerves are associated with pain fibers. However, its damaging effect is immediate, weakening the body and its performance at all levels since brain information does not arrive with clarity and power. It can cause dysfunction in the muscles and organs, and serious disorders in the normal functioning of the body, such as asthma, digestive or gynecological problems, nervousness, hypersensitivity to stress or depression, herniated discs, back pain, neck.
